TANO SOUTH MUNICIPAL OBSERVES NATIONAL SANITATION DAY

In line with the Government’s “Clean Up Ghana Agenda” initiative, the Tano South Municipal Assembly joined the rest of the country to observe National Sanitation Day, themed “A Clean Environment, Our Responsibility”. The event aimed to restore public cleanliness by empowering local government structures and increasing citizen accountability.

Through this initiative, the Tano South Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Bechem Traditional Council, organized a clean-up exercise and a public sensitization program that brought together key stakeholders, including Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Asiedu, Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II Omanhemaa of Bechem Traditional Area, traditional leaders, security personnel, clergy  Assembly staff, and representatives from various organizations, as well as the general public participating in the exercise by weeding, sweeping and distilling choked gutters of the environment and many more sanitary related activities.

Addressing the gathering, the MCE for Tano South, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, extended heartfelt appreciation to the people of Bechem for turning out in large numbers to support the sanitation exercise and said “This clearly demonstrates the people of Bechem’s dedication to support and maintain a clean and healthy environment”, He emphasized the importance of regular sensitization programs and stakeholder meetings to enlighten the public on the dangers of pollution and the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and emphasized  that this initiative would significantly contribute to fostering a culture of cleanliness and sustainability.

Giving his keynote address, the Member of Parliament for Tano South Constituency Hon. Charles Asiedu expressed gratitude to H.E. John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership in reaffirming his commitment to improving environmental sanitation and promoting a healthy environment through the National Sanitation Day initiative and also thanked the Bechem Traditional Council for their guidance in organizing a successful event and commended the people of Bechem for their massive turnout to support the programme.

Hon. Asiedu encouraged the people of Bechem to adopt a daily habit of keeping their environment clean, beyond just observing cleanliness on National Sanitation Day. He further appealed to the public to refrain

from littering and instead use proper waste disposal, stressing that a clean environment is a shared responsibility that requires consistent effort and commitment from all citizens.

He announced that a sanitation task force would be formed to strengthen sanitation by-laws and effectively deal with individuals who flout environmental sanitation regulations.

Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II Omanhemaa of Bechem Traditional Area, thanked all the sundry  participants who took part in the exercise, particularly students from the various high schools in the municipality, for their active involvement. She used the opportunity to wish all final-year Senior High School students the best of luck in their exams and advised them to desist from academic malpractices and prayed that their good deed of participation in the sanitation exercise would yield academic success and a brighter future.

Bringing her speech to an end, she lauded the government for their developmental initiatives aimed at uplifting the image of Bechem, and specifically commended the relaunching of the National Sanitation Day. She advised the community to desist from practices that harm the environment and instead adopt sustainable habits that promote cleanliness and hygiene.
