Tano South Municipal Assembly was among the 259 Assemblies in which President of the Republic has inaugurated across the length and breadth of Ghana.

In a welcoming address, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South thanked all participants for making time out of their busy schedule to attend the programme. According to him, today marks another significant milestone in the nation’s commitment towards the establishment of a formidable decentralized system of government, in accordance with Article 240 (1) of the 1992 Constitution that empowers the citizens to take full responsibility of development in their localities. The current local government system was adopted in Ghana in 1988, since then, Ghana has witnessed the conduct of about eight (8) successful District Level Elections and the inauguration of Assembly Members into office almost every four years.

Hon. Takyi stressed that, the Assembly will put in place measures to assist the new Members to learn the rudiments of the functions of Assembly Members to enable them come to terms with what is required of them for a smooth takeoff and said, Pursuant to section 23 (4) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and in consultation with the Secretary to the Assembly, five (5) Statutory Subcommittees would be formed with each Member of the Assembly belonging to at least one of such subcommittees. The subcommittees are; Development Planning Subcommittee; Social Services Subcommittee; Works Subcommittee; Justice and Security Subcommittee; and Finance and Administration Subcommittee. He also used the occasion to explain functions of the Assembly members.
Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, the Director General of Ghana Health Service who stood in for his Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu – Addo said, he is happy to join residents in the Municipality to inaugurate the Tano South Municipal Assembly.
on composition of the Assembly, he said it is made up of elected Assembly members, government appointees, Unit Committee Members, Member of Parliament for the Constituency, and the Municipal Chief Executive.

On the duties of Assembly Members, Mr. Aboagye said the Assembly Members are mandated to assist the Assembly in revenue mobilization, make decisions to transform their Municipality among others. He also used the occasion to congratulate the elected Assembly members, unit committee members, government appointees. On functions of the Assembly, he said it is responsible for making bye-law, address sanitary issues among others. He also urged Assembly members and management of the Assembly to enforce land use and spatial planning Act, 2016, (Act, 925) to prevent residents from raising unauthorized structures in the Municipality.
The programme was attended by MCE for Tano South, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, the Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Augustine Peprah, Nana Adwoa Po Dwamena Serwaa II Omanhemaa of Bechem Traditional Area. Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, the Director General of Ghana Health Service, Heads of Departments, Nananom, Hon. Opkou Atuahene former DCE Tano South District , Hon Bukari Zakari Anaaba former DCE Tano South District, Hon. Assembly members.
The District Magistrate, Her Worship Akosua Asantewaa Sarpong swore the Assembly members into office.
