People Living With Disability In The Municipality Receives Share Of Common Fund

The Municipal Assembly through the department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) has disbursed the three  percent (3%) share of the common find meant for People Living with Disabilities (PWD’s) in the municipality.

In a short welcome address to the beneficiaries, the Municipal SWCD officer, Mad. Gladys Zuuri said the government of Ghana in its policy to invest in the people to transform the economy has made it possible to distribute the items to PWD’s. She advised them to use the items for its purpose and not to sell them.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi in an address  to the beneficiaries said it is an obligation on the part of the government to support people living with disability and through that the government through the department of Social Welfare and Community Development has released the items representing three percent(3%) of the Assembly’s common fund to be disbursed to people living with disability in the Municipality. He urged the beneficiaries to always give accurate information to government institutions and agencies in compiling individual data for policy and decision making.

Also in attendance was MP for Tano South Constituency and Deputy Minister of Ahafo Region, Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere and in an address to the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to be part of the ceremony. He continued that, he recognizes the role PWDs play in the socio-economic development of the municipality and the country as a whole and indicated that the government has set up a scheme to allocate 3% of the Assembly’s Common Fund solely to serve the needs of PWDs and affirmed that the allocation for disabled persons is governed and urged all PWDs to register and join the association of disabled so as to benefit from the fund.

The Chairman of the Association, Abdulai Issah thanked the department and the government for their continuous support and urged all PWDs to utilize the equipment to show their seriousness so as to get more support from the government. Some items included Fufu pounding machines, Oven, Chest freezer, etc.
