The National Children’s Day (NCD) also provides an occasion for the government, institutions and communities to renew their commitments towards improving the challenges of marginalized and vulnerable children. The theme for the celebration was “Inclusive Futures-Bridging the Digital Divide” the present dispensation. Therefore, the Tano South Municipal Assembly through the department of social welfare and community development celebrated the National Children’s Day at Biokrom in the Tano South Municipal in the Ahafo Region.

Addressing the Children, the Deputy Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Ameah Jacob, who represented the Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the people for their support and contribution towards the development of children in the Municipality and said the assembly will continue to provide a safe and healthy environment where children are given the protection they needed to develop in order to realise their dreams.

In her address, the Ahafo Regional Director, Department of Children, Ms. Dorothy Tetteh stressed that, government has developed child’s policy which seeks to provide free education to children in Ghana especially those in the kindergarten, JHS and SHS and advised parents to love their children.
She emphasised that, the significant impacts on people’s health, social and economic issues. He urged parents and guardians to take care of their children with visually impairment and send them to school to contribute to the socio-economic development of Ghana.

Delivering his address, the Regional Director for Department of Children, Bono Region, Mr. George Ankamah said, Child Protection Committees have been formed in the communities to deliberate on community specific issues affecting the children and intervention for such problems. The committees are expected to collaborate and cooperate among specific work line can be identified and analyzed. He appealed to all parents to direct their efforts towards educating their words and protecting them from all forms form of dangers.

The Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development, Ms. Gladys Zuuri in her address welcomed all present and thanked them for making time to attend such a remarkable event. She stressed that, some children and persons with disabilities continue to face intimidations such as the denial of their basic rights, food, education among others in the societies and called on all and sundry to refrain from such acts and rather help them to execute their mandates in the various communities.

At the end of the programme, all the children and parents present were screened to assess their sight and referred as necessary.
